Global Corporate Consultancy instrumental in
developing groundbreaking guidance document
ST. PAUL, Minn. April 14, 2010 – The Global Corporate Consultancy (GCC) of Delta Consultants, an Oranjewoud company, announced that the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER) has completed the Beverage Industry Sector Guidance for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting (Sector Guidance), Version 2.0.
The Sector Guidance is a groundbreaking document, as it is the first greenhouse gas (GHG) guidance document to incorporate both enterprise inventory and product carbon footprinting approaches for a single industry.
Founded and facilitated by the GCC team, BIER is a technical coalition of 16 leading global beverage companies collaborating to share best practices, benchmark performance and engage external stakeholders. Upon its launch in 2006, BIER focused its agenda on water stewardship activities, but recognizing the need to align greenhouse gas emissions calculations across the industry, expanded its agenda in early 2008.
“The BIER Sector Guidance document places our industry in the forefront of corporations that are seeking to act in a socially responsible manner,” says David Walker, Director of Environmental Sustainability, PepsiCo. “By using this document to communicate consistently and transparently to our consumers, governments, investors, and other stakeholders, we are setting the standard for uniform enterprise and product-level carbon emission reporting.”
As leaders in environmental stewardship, BIER members built on existing global protocols to develop sector-specific guidance that will drive greater consistency in GHG accounting methodology across the beverage industry. Specifically, BIER used The Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Publically Available Specification 2050 as foundation protocols for enterprise inventory accounting and product carbon footprinting, respectively.
“This work product is the culmination of two years of focused efforts and unique collaboration among technical professionals from member beverage companies,” reports Tod D. Christenson, GCC Partner and Director of BIER. “BIER has developed a work product that can be used to establish the beverage industry as a leading sector, and BIER as an indispensible technical resource.”
The GCC was instrumental to completion of the Sector Guidance. Greg LeMay, GCC Associate, facilitated the working group that developed the Guidance, and was the principal author of the final document.
